State of the Union 2011-Education

In this years State of the Union address, President Obama stresses the importance of education and encouraging American innovation. He states that currently 1/3 of American high school students are dropping out prior to graduation, and in ten years the majority of jobs will require a college degree.

Its time to ask the 1/3 of students who dropped out why they did in order to establish an education system where no child feels that they are a failure. These are the children who have the answers to improving our education system, we need to listen to them in order to innovate programs that will enable them to gain the confidence to finish high school and pursue a college education.

Nelson Mandela said, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” I believe, if you treat a child like they are brilliant, that child will be brilliant.
President Obama said, “The future is ours to win.” Our children are our future, and we need to establish a winning education system where everyone crosses the finish line!
