I Have A Dream!

In 1963 we were introduced to the Happy Face by the insurance company Mutual Life, and the Beatles released the song “I Want To Hold Your Hand!”

On August 28^th the same year an estimated 250,000 people gathered in the nation’s capitol and marched from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial in a peaceful demonstration for the passage of meaningful civil rights legislation, the elimination of racial segregation in public schools and protection for demonstrators against police brutality.

This was the day Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his speech “I Have A Dream!”

“In a sense we've come to our nation's capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the "unalienable Rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
“I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today!”

This is one of the most famous speeches in American history and one that I hold dear to my heart and give praise to my parents who in 1959, four years before the March On Washington, purchased a home in a suburban community in the state of R.I. where they were the first black residents in the neighborhood!! They too had a dream and the courage to live it! Thank you Mom and Dad! GODS Love!!
